Abatec Electronic AG on current developments of Local Position Measurement (LPM)
Abatec Electronic AG focuses its development of the Local Position Measurement (LPM) system on customer needs and market trends. Abatec currently works on the following LPM product extensions:
lpmWireless – Bye, bye fibre optic cables
Due to the elimination of fibre optic cabling, LPM becomes more flexible and mobile as it can be used on multiple sites (e.g. pitches) leading to a more reasonable installation.
Solar energy - wireless through alternative power supply
At present the power supply of the real-time network (e.g. base stations) is based on conventional power cabling often leading to structural alteration works around the athletic field during the installation of LPM. In the future, solar energy can be used alternatively.
Both developments, lpmWireless as well as solar-powered LPM base stations, increase the flexibility of the system and simplify the installation. lpmWireless will be ready for use by fall 2010.
Transponder in chip size
The 3 cm-sized transponder worn by the athletes in a belt will be replaced by chip-sized transponders. This increases comfort on the one hand and the opportunity to be employed in sports which have so far prohibited the use of LPM during a match because of the belt (e.g. in soccer).

Ajax Amsterdam installs Local Position Measurement (LPM) system at ‘De Toekomst’

Ajax will soon begin installing an advanced performance-measurements system at the ‘De Toekomst’ Sports Park. The system is being supplied by the Amsterdam-based company Inmotio BV and is expected to be operational within several months on two pitches at the sports complex.
The Inmotio system makes it possible to measure both the tactical and the physical performance of the players. The system provides information that can lead to improved performances of football players and improved training efficiency. Some areas that should be affected include improvements to the physical and tactical performance of the players, the focused preparation of the players for a particular fixture, helping to avoid injuries, developing more efficient training methods, and building up a personal player file.
PSV Einhoven, FC Bayern München and AZ Alkmaar are already using the Inmotio system.
Ajax will be using the system in both its youth training and the A selection.

The Skating Union of the Russian Federation installs LPM training system in the ice stadium of Kolomna (Moscow region).
The Russian Skating Union is taking an important step in the development and improvement of the physical and tactical performance measurement of the Russian national speed skating team. The LPM system provides the position, speed and heart rate of the skaters. This information is provided real-time. By using the real time available data, the coaches can check or improve the races of their skaters and develop new strategies.

FC Bayern München improves play by using LPM Soccer3D monitoring system
Real-time data like heart rate, position and speed is saved by the system. So the training staff is able to even better adjust the training programs to each individual player's needs and to create an optimal training environment targeted at performance improvement.
